The protocol
Measure. Intervene. Re-measure.
Phase: baseline. Measuring what's in me before changing anything else.
Blood particles — PlasticTox kit ordered 30 Aug 2026 (via Suede Health, A$350), awaiting dispatch. Urine chemicals — i-screen My Toxin Report (48 analytes incl. BPA, phthalates, PFAS) queued next.
Swaps already in place since Jan 2025 — see the kit. Re-measure planned ~6 months after baseline.
This site exists because of a gap: plenty of people write about microplastics, and nobody was publishing a longitudinal, quantified attempt to get them out of one actual human. This page is the protocol — fixed in advance, so I can't quietly move the goalposts later.
Phase 1 — Baseline (now)
Two instruments, honestly different in quality. For plastic particles: the PlasticTox finger-prick blood test, analysed in a Netherlands lab — ordered 30 Aug 2026 via its Australian channel (Suede Health, A$350). Its methods are new and there are no validated reference ranges early — I'm treating it as an experiment, not medicine. For plastic-associated chemicals (BPA, phthalate metabolites, parabens, PFAS): an Australian at-home urine panel (i-screen My Toxin Report, 48 analytes, A$439) — this class of testing is well-validated human trial-adjacent chemistry. A snag worth its own post: the best-known consumer test, Million Marker, simply can't be shipped to Australia.
Alongside the bloodwork: a full audit of the house — kettle, boards, teabags, storage, bottled water habits, textiles — which became the materials reference and the kit.
Phase 2 — Intervene (months 1–6)
In rough order of evidence strength: no heated plastic anywhere (kettle, microwave, teabags); no bottled water — filtered tap instead; loose-leaf tea; wooden chopping boards; glass and steel storage; fresh food over packaged where practical — a 2011 crossover study cut urinary BPA ~66% and DEHP ~50% in three days of fresh food (EHP, 2011) human trial; then the slower work on dust and air — HEPA vacuuming, ventilation, natural-fibre textiles. Most of these swaps are already in place and itemised, with prices, on the kit page.
Phase 3 — Re-measure (~6 months after baseline)
Same tests, same labs, same conditions as baseline, results published whatever they say. If the numbers don't move, that finding gets the same headline treatment a success would — a "plastic-free diet" RCT in 2013 famously backfired when the replacement foods turned out to be contaminated, and honest nulls are rarer than they should be.
What I will not claim
No detox products, ever. No "plasma donation removes microplastics" (it reduces some PFAS, a different thing). No supplement recommendations. And "association, not causation" gets said in full every time it applies — including about the scariest findings on this site.
Questions people actually ask
Can you actually remove microplastics from your body?
Nothing is proven to accelerate removal. Plasma donation reduces some PFAS chemicals, not plastic particles; sweat, saunas and "detox" supplements have no particle evidence. The honest strategy is to cut what goes in and assume slow natural clearance — which is exactly what this experiment tests.
What are you measuring?
Two different things. Plastic particles in blood, via the PlasticTox finger-prick test (experimental — no validated reference ranges, framed as an experiment, not medicine). And plastic-associated chemicals — BPA, phthalate metabolites, PFAS — in urine via an Australian consumer lab panel, which is much better-validated science.
Is this medical advice?
No. It is one engineer measuring himself carefully and citing every claim. Talk to a doctor about your own health; use the sources here to ask better questions.
Why should I trust a blog about microplastics?
You shouldn't trust any blog — including this one — that doesn't show its sources. Every claim here is graded (human trial, observational, animal, lab, early) and linked to the primary study. Negative results and corrections get published with the same prominence as wins.
